Meet Maeve

She is a happy, outgoing, high-spirited six year old. We could fill this page with adjectives to describe her, but the most important word is “brave”. That’s what everyone calls her, “Maeve the Brave”. In the fall of 2004, Maeve was diagnosed as having astrocytoma, shocking her family to its core. Since then, she has been undergoing chemotherapy, with the attendant effects. But also since then, she has learned to horseback ride, joined the junior color guard at her school, engaged in a myriad of creative programs, and sings like a pro. She’s made friends, and lost friends to cancer. She’s had great days and days that weren’t very good at all. But always, she smiles, cracks jokes and amuses everyone near her. Just before Christmas of 2005, Maeve was “knighted” by Cops for Kids with Cancer. The ceremony means to instill the children with the courage of Cu Chulainn, renowned Celtic warrior, to vanquish their own dragon, cancer. She was also given a ride in a Boston Police car, lights and sirens –the coolest thing ever. We at Cops for Kids with Cancer believe that, in addition to funding activities, it’s important to energize the courage children need to face their cancer challenges and win the battle.
